BAFTA TV awards 2023

Congratulations to everyone nominated for the BAFTA TV Awards 2023 and particular congratulations to Ben Whishaw for winning the award for Best Lead Actor in This Is Going to Hurt.

RADA graduates were nominated for six awards this year.

Nominations include Imelda Staunton and Maxine Peake for Leading Actress. Imelda Staunton has been nominated for her role as HRH Queen Elizabeth II in fictional drama series, The Crown and Maxine Peake was nominated for her performance as Anne Williams, a Hillsborough justice campaigner.

Ben Whishaw and Taron Egerton were both nominated for Lead Actor, for their respective roles in This Is Going To Hurt and Black Bird. This Is Going To Hurt is based on Adam Kay’s memoir of the same name and follows Ben as he plays a doctor working on an NHS labour ward. Crime drama Black Bird, also based on a memoir, sees Taron Egerton as Jimmy Keene who is sentenced to 10 years and has to choose whether he should befriend a serial killer or serve his full sentence with no possibility of parole.

Fiona Shaw was nominated for Supporting Actress for her role in Disney’s Andor. Part of the Star Wars galaxy, Fiona plays Maarva, a respected member of the Daughters of Ferrix whose patience for the Empire wears thin.

Featuring in comedy-thriller Am I Being Unreasonable? Daisy May Cooper was nominated for Female Performance in a Comedy Programme. Daisy, who also co-wrote the series, plays Nic, a grieving mother who is motivated to keep going by her son Ollie.
